Blah, Blah, Blah by Donna Williams (50 mins) $19.80 (AUD)

In the 1960's, when I was two and a half I was tested for deafness, then again in 1970's at nine years old. I was not deaf. I was meaning deaf.

In those days people did not understand information processing disorders. I could hear and mimic language, had a wide repertoire of songs, jingles and advertisements, but I couldn't understand language with meaning.

I discovered meaning existed when I was nine and by the age of ten could finally roughly understand three sentences in a row before the meaning would 'drop out'.

This program explores my journey from a world where language was about pattern, theme and feel to discovering people interpreted language, that it had 'meaning'.

I talk about what that was like and the tools I used to eventually move from a 'feral' to 'poet' and finally to the 'writer' and public speaker I am known as today.
